Hurricane KatrinaThe early morning of August 29th Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of the United States. When it reached land it had a category 3 in the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale with winds of 100-140 miles per hour. The Hurricane caused damaged of over $100 billion and killed an estimated of 1.833 people. | Death of Pope John Paul IISince early days of this year, the health of Pope John Paul II was getting worst. First he was hospitalized twice with breathing problems and had to go through a tracheotomy, then he suffered of a urinary infection, and the he had a kind of infection with high fever and low blood pressure. On April 2nd he spoke his final words "allow me to depart to the house of the Father", and later he fell into a coma. Then he died on April 2nd at age 84. |

Chicago White Sox Won the World ChampionshipIn the games held from October 22-26 the Chicago White Sox won the World Series Championship against the Houston Astros. | Eliminating Child LabourEliminating Child Labour in Mining and Quarrying was a campaign that try to avoid that children had to keep working in mining and quarrying. This campaign was created because it was estimated that at least million children from 5 to 17 years, around the world worked in mines and quarries at that time. There were countries that signed the treaty among which are: Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, Pakistan, Togo, and Senegal. |
Kashmir EarthquakeOn October 8th an earthquake occurred in Azad Kashmir in Pakistan. The magnitude was 7.6 is the Richter scale. It affected countries in surrounding areas of Afghanistan, Chinese Xinjian and Tajikistan. Approximately there were 138.000 injured people. |
